Although Warembo Forum is a new organisation, we are very busy with activities and are planning more for the future. Recent activities include sexual health training, in which members learned how to effectively use female condoms. Members who underwent this training were also trained to become peer sexual educators in order to pass along the training to others. This training was organised and partially funded by Warembo Forum with a donation from the Centre for Human Rights Promotion (CHRP).
In addition, we have been working on research in partnership with International Human Rights Watch and Tanzania Gender Networking Programme (TGNP). This is an ongoing activity to help us better identify the needs of LBTI women, commercial sex workers, and disabled women living with HIV/AIDS. The research findings allow us to advocate for change, evidence-based policy making, and contribute to the Constitutional review process. This also allows us to network with other stakeholders, thus providing the opportunity to contribute to wider initiatives.
Warembo Forum aims to ensure that the needs of marginalised women are fully included in the National Policy on HIV/AIDS. We also strive to ensure that the needs of marginalised women are mainstreamed in the existing initiatives designed to protect women's rights. For example, initiatives designed to combat gender-based violence should ensure that the needs of marginalised women are also included.
